Options in Childbirth-OB Open House Tour
At Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa, our progressive nursing staff is dedicated to making each birth a safe, unique and memorable experience. Our hospital has a longstanding reputation for excellence in the areas of high-risk obstetrics and neonatal intensive care. Expectant parents are invited to come see the very latest in family-centered maternity care options. Meet some of our caring staff and tour our family suites. Tours are held every Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. in our Vesalius Room at Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa. Available in both English and Spanish. Call (707) 576-4800 to reserve a space.

Early Pregnancy Class
|
Healthy Pregnancy/Healthy Baby-Early Pregnancy Class
This is a three hour class designed to promote wellness and healthy choices early in pregnancy. The class includes nutrition, exercise, substances to avoid, normal pregnancy changes and warning signs. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish. English classes are held the first Saturday of every month and Spanish classes the fourth Saturday of every month, both from 9 a.m.- 12 noon at the Women's Health Resource Center. The fee is $30 per couple. Health Net and CPSP cover class fees for their members. Call (707) 576-4800 to register.

Childbirth Preparation Classes
|
Childbirth Preparation Class/English or Spanish (Also known as Prenatal Class. Includes breastfeeding and infant care)
This class is designed to help prepare the expectant couple for childbirth and parenting. The 7-week series covers what to expect during pregnancy, labor, delivery, breastfeeding and newborn care. During the first five weeks, a portion of each class is devoted to exercise, relaxation breathing techniques and a variety of comfort measures. The sixth and seventh weeks of class focus on breastfeeding and newborns. Classes are held Monday or Thursday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Women's Health Resource Center or Tuesdays off site. The fee for the entire series is $100 per couple. Sutter Medical Group of the Redwoods offers this class series free to its members. CPSP accepted. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring two pillows to each class. Call (707) 576-4800 to register.
Weekend Intensive:
Designed for couples unable to attend weekday classes, this weekend intensive class includes what to expect during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and the benefits of exercise, relaxation and breathing techniques. Classes are Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m-5 p.m. Includes lunch and reference book. Fee is $125 per couple. Sutter Medical Group of the Redwoods offers this class free to its members. CPSP accepted. Prenatal Refresher
|
|
This one-night "refresher" class is for expectant parents who have attended childbirth preparation classes with previous pregnancies. Participants will review the process of labor and delivery and learn new relaxation techniques. Classes are held on the second Thursday of every odd month from 6-9 p.m. at the Women's Health Resource Center. The fee is $30 per couple. CPSP accepted. Call (707) 576-4800 to register.

Expecting Twins or Triplets
|

This three hour session is designed to supplement the Childbirth Preparation class to meet the special needs of families expecting twins or triplets. The class focuses on special needs during pregnancy and covers the needs of parenting and caring for your babies after delivery. Classes are held the second Thursday of every even month from 6-9:00 p.m. at the Women's Health Resource Center. Fee is $30 per couple. CPSP accepted. Call (707) 576-4800 to register.

Sibling Preparation Class

Tyke Hike-Sibling Preparation Class
The first of its kind in Sonoma County. Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa's Tyke Hike is designed to help prepare young siblings for the arrival of their new brother or sister. This special event for children is held on the second Saturday of every month, from 10-11:30 a.m., at the Women's Health Resource Center. The fee is $15 for the first child, $5 for each additional child. Each child will receive a family coloring book and T-shirt. Call (707) 576-4800 to register.

Weekly Postnatal Breastfeeding Workshop
|
|
This workshop is led by lactation consultants who will assist families seeking support and information on breastfeeding, including mothers experiencing problems such as engorgement or sore nipples. Classes are held every Thursday from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Women's Health Resource Center. Families are welcome, although Mom may want to have other children left at home so she can focus on information. CPSP accepted. The fee for this class is $15 per family. Sling Class
|
|
Wearing your baby! Continue to carry your baby close to your heart, nurse with ease and discretion and support baby's healthy posture. In this hands-on class, you will practice using your own sling, or find one that works for you. You can explore various carrying positions for different ages or weight by trying on some of the most popular slings on the market. Learn how wearing your baby is beneficial for both your and your little one. Classes are held the third Thursday of every month from 12 noon-1:00 p.m. at the Women's Health Resource Center. Breastfeeding Class

This course is included in the 7-week prenatal series and is also available as a single class. It is for those who are planning to breastfeed and would like the most current information about preparation, positioning, father's roles, prevention of sore nipples and much more. The classes are held on the following Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings in English and Spanish from 6:30-9 p.m. CPSP accepted. The fee is $15 per couple, if being taken separately. An ongoing drop-in group meeting twice a month to allow women with breast cancer to share their experiences receive and give support, learn coping methods, participate in decisions around one's own health management and share information regarding treatment options and optimal self-care.
