Sutter Health Offers $4 Million Scholarship Program to Employee's Children

Children of employees and physicians working for Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa and Sutter Warrack Hospital soon will benefit from a $4 million fund established by Sutter Health for a competitive scholarship program. Children and grandchildren of the 38,000 people who work across the not-for-profit Sutter Health network may apply for grants from the new Sutter Scholars program this spring, and the first recipients of annual awards between $1,500 and $6,000 will be announced in August. Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa and Sutter Warrack Hospital are a part of the network.

"Sutter Scholars is just one more example of how we’re working with other organizations across our network to positively impact our community and become a model 'Employer of Choice,'" said Mike Cohill, CEO. "It’s a thrill to provide these programs that can make a clear difference for our society’s future leaders, businesspeople, physicians and nurses."

Students and their families can expect to pay, on average, about $127 to $1,001 more than last year for this year’s tuition and fees, according to recent reports from the College Board.

"College costs are up about 6 to 10 percent from 2002 depending on the type of institution a student selects," said Sutter Health President and CEO Van R. Johnson.
"We wanted to do what we could to support students who otherwise might not be able to attend college, and providing our employees with this special opportunity seemed like the best place to start," he said.

Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa has a long history in Sonoma County dating back to 1866 when the first hospital was opened. In 1996, Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa became an affiliate of Sutter Health.
